Πώς η διακόσμηση μπορεί να αυξήσει την παραγωγικότητα των εργαζομένων;

20 Strategies Startups Can Implement Today To Improve Teamwork

Teamwork is a vital part of any company, but even more so for startups when the work environment and culture requires all hands on deck working closely together all the time. In the end, teamwork comes down to cooperation and communication and without it, your business can certainly suffer.
While the terms “teamwork” or “team building” may bring visions of company retreats practicing trust falls, in actuality building team morale, trust and productivity doesn’t have to involve pricey trips or clichéd exercises.
Here are 20 straightforward strategies to help improve teamwork in your startup today:

1. Lead by example

If you want your team to communicate with each other, work hard, produce strong results and keep the business moving forward then you must lead by example and do the same.
Treat your own roles, responsibilities and relationships with coworkers the same way you want others to.

2. Build up trust and respect

Nothing is going to get done within a team, or company as a whole, if there isn’t mutual trust and respect among employees and with management.
Team members must trust each other to each do their part as well as trust their leaders to be guiding them in the right direction.

3. Encourage socializing

Set aside time for team members to get to know one another on a more personal level to increase mutual trust, respect and understanding.
This can be as simple as after-hour drinks or a laidback office party, just get people talking!

4. Cultivate open communication

Encourage team members to speak open, share ideas, make suggestions and voice their opinions across all aspects of the business.
Communication is a two-way street and employees should feel like they can add to the conversation both with superiors and peers.

5. Clearly outline roles and responsibilities

Everyone in a team should have a crystal clear understanding of what their role and responsibilities within the group are.
This will help limit confusion or time spent organizing and delegating work so individuals can simply focus on their task at hand.

6. Organize team processes

Along with establishing clear roles, there should be set team processes in place for working on a project, mitigating setbacks, communicating with each other and providing feedback.
Again, these guidelines will help employees spend less time on logistics and more on their actual work.

7. Set defined goals

Each team should know exactly what they’re working toward including what goals they need to be hitting and when.
Set measurable goals within a specific timeframe that group members can measure themselves against both individually and as a team.
Knowing where they stand in relation to the outlined benchmarks will provide added motivation and incentive to work together.

8. Recognize good work

Praising and recognizing a job well done will boost confidence and morale, encouraging teams and individuals to keep up the good work.

9. Mediate conflict quickly and efficiently

It’s normal for conflict to arise in a team setting – there may be a communication breakdown at some point or people may have personal issues.
How conflict is managed should be clear under the team processes. If a team member has an issue how should they handle it? Who should they speak to first?
Make these practices and expectations clear from the beginning then handle situations quickly to help a team move on and maintain a good working environment.

10. Allow team members to actively take part in decision-making

Having a sense of personal involvement in the decision-making process will solidify individuals’ connection and investment in the team, making them feel like they are an integral part of something rather than just a piece of the puzzle.

11. Use Azendoo for task management

Collect and streamline team tasks, progress, deadlines and updates with a project management system like Azendoo.
The application allows teams to gather information and conversations in one place with real time syncing across the board.

12. Maintain the balance of work

Of course different team members will be working on different tasks, but try to ensure that everyone still has similar workloads. There shouldn’t be any single person bearing the brunt of the work.
The point of being in a team is to work together to share the load and create something one couldn’t do on their own.

13. Meet regularly… and mix it up

Meetings shouldn’t get in the way of productivity or be a waste of time, but teams should still meet regularly to touch base, check in on progress and goals, throw ideas around and build awareness about what each member is working on.
Plan regular meetings to reconnect, but make sure the time is used efficiently and effectively and consider switching things up by trying a walking meeting or meeting in a different place, like a coffee shop.
Taking things outside of the workplace has been shown to increase productivity and let communication flow more naturally.

14. Don’t micromanage

While teams should be meeting regularly together and with their supervisors, it’s still important not to micromanage.
Give your team the time, space and independence to produce work on their own without feeling like they’re always been watched or judged.

15. Create space

Give your team the physical and mental space to create and work in peace. This may mean setting specific times where group members only work alone or are not allowed to send or check email.
Things can get done more quickly as a team, however individuals still need their personal time to focus on their part of the project.

16. Start team traditions

This goes for teams and the company as a whole – create traditions to help bring people together and establish a sense of unified culture and solidarity.
They can be silly and simple, such as a running inside joke, or serious and elaborate, like offering a large incentive for when a team has reached their goals, but find a way for the team to connect on another level that isn’t just work-related.

17. Use size to your advantage

Both big and small teams have their own advantages. Larger teams have more manpower, but smaller groups often tend to show more personal investments and take individual responsibility for getting things done.
Whatever the size of your team is, consider what it needs to work best and use its size to your advantage.

18. Make hiring a team responsibility

When adding someone new to the company or team, have the existing team weigh in on the final decision, especially if they’re a small group.
One person’s skills, attitude and work ethic can easily affect overall group dynamics. By having the opportunity to weigh in on newcomers, the existing team will be able to help choose the best fit.

19. Give frequent feedback

Teams should receive frequent feedback from their leaders and each other. This can mean feedback on completed work but also include sharing any questions, insight, praise or problems the team may be having.

20. Take time to celebrate

Acknowledge and honor team wins.
Not only is celebrating simply fun, but it also helps reinforce a team’s willingness to work together and work hard for the company when their effort is clearly appreciated and celebrated.

15 HABITS THAT WILL TOTALLY TRANSFORM YOUR PRODUCTIVITY

FROM DECLUTTERING YOUR DESK TO LETTING YOURSELF COMPLAIN, THESE 15 EASY BEHAVIOR CHANGES CAN CHANGE HOW MUCH YOU ACCOMPLISH EACH DAY.
People who manage to get a lot accomplished each day aren't super human, they've just mastered a few simple habits. Some may be easy to guess: Keep your desk organized and aim for around eight hours of sleep a night. But others, like taking a mid-day nap or complaining, might surprise you.
Here are 15 easy ways to make every day more productive:

1. Declutter your desk.

MESSY WORK SPACE:

Creativity may arise from chaos, but a litter-strewn office probably isn’t helping you get stuff done. "Attention is programmed to pick up what’s novel," says Josh Davis, director of research at the NeuroLeadership Institute and author ofTwo Awesome Hours. Visible files remind you of unfinished tasks. An unread book is temptation for procrastination. Even if you don’t think you’re noticing the disorder, it hurts your ability to focus.

TIDY WORK SPACE:

People with neat offices are more persistent and less frustrated and weary, according to a recent study in Harvard Business Review, which found that a clean desk helps you stick with a task more than one and a half times longer. "While it can be comforting to relax in your mess, a disorganized environment can be a real obstacle," says Grace Chae, a professor at Fox School of Business at Temple University and coauthor of the study.

2. Be part of the 20%.

No matter how crazy your days get, make sure you carve out and ruthlessly protect just 90 minutes—20% of an eight-hour day—for the most important tasks. "Even if you squander the remaining 80% of the day, you can still make great progress if you have spent 90 minutes on your goals or priorities," says Charlotte, North Carolina–based productivity coach Kimberly Medlock.

3. Work less.

Think you can get more done by tacking on extra hours? According to a 2014 study by Stanford professor John Pencavel, who examined data from laborers during World War I, output was proportionate to time worked—up to 49 hours. Beyond that, it rose at a decreasing rate, and those who put in 70 hours had the same productivity as someone who worked 56 hours.

4. Stop phoning it in.

You might believe you’re ignoring your iPhone, but unless it’s fully turned off, it’s a major distraction. In a report published this year in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, researchers from Florida State University found that even if you don’t look at your phone when it buzzes, the sound makes your mind wander.

5. Try this email hack.

How Alexandra Samuel, author of Work Smarter With Social Media, avoids getting distracted when she’s waiting for an important message:
1. Find the email-to-text format for your cell-phone provider with a quick Google search. Verizon, for example, is @vtext.com, so if your mobile number is 555-123-4567, your address is 5551234567@vtext.com.
2. Using that address, set up your email so it forwards messages from a specific sender to your cell phone via text (in Outlook, find "Rules" in the "Tools" task bar).
3. Shut down your inbox and ignore your emails while focusing on more pressing tasks, knowing you’ll be alerted when the important message comes in.

6. Go heavy on HVAs.

People are more efficient at things that come naturally, while tasks that feel like a struggle are likely to impede progress. If you can, delegate the duties that feel like an effort, and instead focus on "high value activities." "HVAs are within your mission, leverage your strengths, and create impact or change," says Hillary Rettig, author ofThe Seven Secrets of the Prolific: The Definitive Guide to Overcoming Procrastination, Perfectionism, and Writer’s Block. "They also create clarity and open your schedule." Delegating your non–HVA activities also helps create community. After all, they could very well be someone else’s HVAs.

7. Meet smarter.

Three ways to get the most out of your group sessions:

1. MAKE A PLAN

Many meetings don’t have a particular agenda, but it’s important to know what you want to accomplish going in. "Keep meetings short by limiting the agenda to three items or less," says Alan Eisner, professor of management at Pace University’s Lubin School of Business. "Afterward, send out minutes using your agenda so everyone knows what to work on."

2. BANISH DISTRACTIONS

Put nonagenda thoughts into an "idea parking lot." "People bring up ideas that are important to them but not on-topic," says Cary Greene, coauthor of Simple Sabotage: A Modern Field Manual for Detecting & Rooting Out Everyday Behaviors That Undermine Your Workplace. "Instead of losing them, write them down." Don’t let the parking lot be ablack hole: Assign follow-up steps right at the end of the meeting.

3. PLAY MUSICAL CHAIRS

Walking meetings are gaining popularity, but you can get a similar benefit without hitting the hallway. Set a timer for 30 to 45 minutes. When it goes off, have everyone get up and move. "You can stand and shake it out a bit as a group, which lightens everyone up," says workplace psychologist Karissa Thacker. "Moving regularly is good for us in all kinds of ways, including improving our ability to focus."

8. Sleep on the job.

It might be tough to convince your boss, but researchers from the University of Michigan found that taking a daytime nap counteracts impulsive behavior and boosts tolerance for frustration. The findings also suggest that workplace dozers could be more productive.

9. Beware these productivity killers.

Identifying distractions is the first step to avoiding them. Here are the top five workplace attention destroyers, according to a 2015 survey by CareerBuilder:
  • Cell phones/texting
  • Internet
  • Gossip
  • Social media
  • Email

10. Make prioritization a priority.

To get more done, be mindful of everyday choices, suggests Lisa Zaslow, founder of the New York–based Gotham Organizers:

1. FOLLOW YOUR BRAIN

"We can’t operate at peak performance all day long," says Zaslow. "When I’m feeling my best, I concentrate on important activities like writing. When I’m feeling tired and foggy, I do relatively mindless tasks like dealing with routine emails."

2. PRACTICE STRATEGIC PROCRASTINATION

"In order to focus on urgent or meaningful activities, let some other things slide," she says. For example, open your mail just once a week; these days, nothing urgent arrives with a postage stamp on it. And while some organizers will tell you to touch any piece of paper just once, Zaslow is more forgiving. It’s okay to toss less-pressing work in a pile for later, she says.

11. Stay in the slumber "sweet spot."

It’s not surprising that getting more done starts with a good night’s sleep, but it turns out getting too many hours is as bad as too few. Analyzing the sleep and work habits of 3,760 people over seven years, researchers at the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health found that under-sleepers and oversleepers were both more likely to take extra sick days.

12. Seek out the sun.

An office with a view sounds like a recipe for mind wandering. Actually, access to sunlight boosts productivity. In a study by the California Energy Commission, workers who sat near a window performed better, processing calls 6% to 12% faster and performing 10% to 25% better on tests that involved mental function and memory recall.

13. Want to motivate people? Be human.

Energize staff by clearly defining expectations and routinely offering positive feedback. According to a recent study by Gallup, companies that engage their workforce see a 65% decrease in turnover, a 21% bump in productivity, and a 10% increase in customer ratings.

14. Complain.

But do it the right way. Present your beef with an idea for improvement. "Framing things in terms of solutions lessens the focus on the problem and who might be at fault," says management professor Russell Johnson, coauthor of a study published in the Journal of Applied Psychology. "It evokes pleasant emotions instead of negative ones that cause mental fatigue."

15. Hit the elliptical.

Exercise not only improves health, it boosts output. And you don’t have to kill yourself in CrossFit—a jog will do. Researchers from the University of Otago in New Zealand found that a daily 20-minute run helped lab rats complete problem-solving tasks more quickly and efficiently than their nonexercised counterparts.
